Why a Retreat?

Making an annual retreat — a couple of days spent in silence, prayer, and reflection — involves a sacrifice for busy people.

Who has the time? Nonetheless, countless busy people make time for a retreat in the same way they make time for anything else important in their lives. Every year busy professional men enjoy a retreat and see it as a valuable investment to refresh their spirit. Year after year, the experience of attending a retreat provides benefits, which include:

  • A more intimate friendship with Jesus Christ through prayer and reception of the sacraments;
  • A clearer perspective on the course of their lives-past, present and future;
  • Insight into what needs improvement in their family and professional lives in order to lead others effectively;
  • Self-knowledge gained through spiritual direction;
  • A return to everyday life with a greater sense of full confidence in God.

Retreats provide an opportunity to reflect on everyday life in the light of Christian principles. An atmosphere of personal prayer and recollection is maintained during the retreat. Each full day of the retreat includes Holy Mass and several conferences in the chapel, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and recitation of the Rosary. The priest conducting the retreat is available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and spiritual guidance.

FAQs

1. What should I bring?

We recommend you bring a small pocket journal, where you can take notes for yourself, and your rosary. Everything else, including a selection of spiritual reading materials, will be provided.

2. What is the appropriate attire?

For Mass, we request a sports jacket. Otherwise, business casual.

3. Is it really a “silent” retreat?

We do request silence in our common areas during the free time, to facilitate recollection and maintain an atmosphere of prayer. Those who wish to engage in conversation are advised to do so on other parts of the grounds.

4. When can I go to Confession?

There are scheduled times when the priest is available for confession, but one can also, sign up for personal spiritual direction and confession in between activities.
